Facing a goal-scoring drought, Detroit looks to a looming gauntlet of defensive-struggling opponents and the return of captain Dylan Larkin to ignite their stagnant offensive attack.

While much of Hockeytown has been caught up in the headlines surrounding the Detroit Red Wings, attention should turn to the ice and the team's upcoming run of games.

Many Detroit fans are worried about an offense that has scored just two goals through its first two games of the season, with neither Dylan Larkin nor Simon Edvinsson in the lineup. With questions about where the season is headed, the schedule may offer some help.

The next week is not an easy one as the Red Wings face a tough defensive matchup against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, then host the defending Eastern Conference champion Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.

After that, the slate softens considerably over the next couple of weeks, as Detroit is set to face the Seattle Kraken twice, the San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers. All of whom finished in the bottom ten in defense last season, which could give the Red Wings a chance to bounce back and get the offense going.

The timing could work in Detroit's favor as Larkin is expected to return to the lineup before that stretch begins, and the former captain could help spark the offense and engineer a quick turnaround.
