Examining which Detroit Red Wings will likely make Olympic rosters in 2026

The 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics are fast approaching with the NHL sending their players for the first time since the 2014 Olympic games in Sochi, Russia. The event will be highly anticipated after the smashing success of the Four Nations Face-Off last February, where Hockey took the main stage in the sports world during the duration of the tournament.

NHL players will be excited to finally represent their nations with it being the first time some players are able to do so on the biggest stage with the Olympics. We look to break down which Red Wings we expect to make Olympic rosters.

Dylan Larkin - Team USA 🇺🇸

There's no doubt that the Red Wings captain will make Team USA after a stellar performance at the Four Nations Face-Off that saw him jump from the fourth to the second line. He has proven to be a consistent presence on Team USA in the past at other international tournaments and will likely be called upon again to represent America. Like his role in Detroit, we can expect Larkin to be selected for the team mainly cause of his overall game, working in all situations like both power play and penalty kill.

    Lucas Raymond - Sweden 🇸🇪

The Red Wings top point man over the last two seasons was named to Team Sweden as part of their first six players announced for the roster in mid-June. Raymond joins the likes of William Nylander, Adrian Kempe, Victor Hedman, Rasmus Dahlin, and Gabriel Landeskog as part of Sweden's elite roster that attempts to win their first gold medal in hockey since the 2006 Turin Games.

    Moritz Seider - Germany 🇩🇪

The Red Wings blueline anchor was named to Team Germany as part of their first six players announced for the roster in mid-June. He joins the likes of Leon Draisaitl, Tim Stützle, Lukas Reichel, Nico Sturm, and Philipp Grubauer as part of Germany's contending roster that looks to medal once again after winning silver during the 2018 PyeongChang Games, when the NHL did not send their players. He's been the captain of his home country on multiple world stages and could be a contender to take the leading role once again.

Alex DeBrincat - Team USA 🇺🇸

The Americans are expected to field a roster similar to the one they used at the Four Nations tournament. However, if they decide to make a few changes, DeBrincat could be a strong candidate. The Michigan native responded to his Four Nations snub with an impressive 39-goal season, the fourth most among American players.

His 70 points also surpassed several players who made the Four Nations roster, including Brady Tkachuk, Vincent Trocheck and Brock Nelson. While roster decisions often come down to fit and playing style, like Nelson’s strong two-way game, if Team USA is looking to add more scoring depth to the lineup, DeBrincat might be the right choice.

Honorable Mention: Marco Kasper - Austria 🇦🇹

The Red Wings rising centre is one of the best exports out of Austria for hockey, yet due to the countries poor performance in qualifying stages, they did not earn a spot in the 2026 Winter Games for Ice Hockey. Lesser known hockey countries that qualified instead are France and Italy.
