All the top plays from Detroit's two-game sweep of their prospect face-off with the Dallas Stars

All the top plays from Detroit's two-game sweep of their prospect face-off with the Dallas Stars

Over the weekend, a team of Red Wings prospects played a two-game set with squad of fledgling Dallas Stars in what remains of the Traverse City Prospects Tournament. It might not be the most competitive or the most important hockey of the year, but at least it's five-on-five. On Saturday, Detroit cruised to 5-1 victory, with five different Red Wing prospects recording a point.  On Sunday, Detroit completed the sweep with a 3-2 victory.

Here are a few of the top plays from the weekend:

    Emmitt Finnie & Gabriel Seger

First up, we've got a lovely move from Emmit Finnie, who showed off the same offensive flair at Red Wings development camp back in July.  Finnie applies vertical pressure to force an odd-man rush and drives straight for the net, where Gabriel Seger (whom Detroit signed over the summer after a five-year NCAA career split between Union College and Cornell University) was able to finish it off.

    Jakub Rychlovsky & Michael Brandsegg-Nygard

Also on Saturday, Jakub Rychlovsky (signed this summer out of Czechia) and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard (Detroit's first-round draft pick in June) combined for a nice goal on the man advantage.  The latter powered a one-timer from the point (off a Shai Buium pass), while Rychlovsky crashed the net to find a power play reward awaiting him.

    Alexandre Doucet & Hunter Johannes

Alexandre Doucet followed up a strong Saturday performance by scoring the first goal of Sunday afternoon's action, crashing the net to deposit the rebound from a slot chance from Hunter Johannes.

After a Stars equalizer, the duo would combine later in the afternoon to restore Detroit's lead, with Doucet setting up Johannes this time around.

    Emmitt Finnie Again

Finnie struck again for the weekend's decisive goal with just under six minutes to play in the third period of Sunday's matinee on the power play.  The setup came via a well-placed Rychlovsky.
