Standing at 6‑foot‑2 and tipping the scales around 205 lbs, the 18‑year‑old left-shot winger is best known for his physical style. According to The Hockey Writers, "he plays with intensity, engages physically, is smart on the forecheck, and has the skill to contribute offensively," with 15 of his 23 goals last season coming from prime scoring areas that shows his physical edge that gains comparisons to Edmonton's Zach Hyman.

After playing through many layers of the Swedish hockey club, Linköping HC, he's seen some impressive season like when playing with the U-20 team. Genborg recorded 19 goals and 15 assists for 34 points in 28 games, then followed it up with a point-per-game effort through three playoff games.

Genborg has seen International success, playing a key role in Sweden’s U18 and U19 campaigns with 18 points through 28 international junior games. This past year, he earned a silver medal at the U-18 World Junior Championships and a bronze medal at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

The pick signals Detroit continuing its Swedish connections with Genborg joining an elite group with Lucas Raymond and Simon Edvinsson, who could speak and help Genborg better understand how to improve and grow within the Red Wings system. Though expected to remain in Sweden next season, likely joining Timrå IK for the 2025–26 SHL season, Genborg could eventually carve himself out a role in the Red Wings bottom-six forward group within a few years when they are contending in the playoffs.
