The Detroit Red Wings were shut out for the second time this season, losing a 1-0 final via a shootout to the divisional rival Montreal Canadiens.
Despite another strong performance, including an impressive debut from goaltender Daniil Tarasov, the Detroit Red Wings couldn't find the back of the net Saturday night.
The Montreal Canadiens escaped with a 1-0 shootout victory at Bell Centre after Zachary Bolduc scored the only goal in the sixth round.
Canadiens goaltender Jacob Fowler stopped all 30 shots he faced through regulation and overtime before denying all six Red Wings attempts in the shootout, turning aside Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat, Viktor Arvidsson, Dylan Larkin, Axel Sandin-Pellikka, and Nate Danielson.
Tarasov, making his first start with the Red Wings, was equally impressive, stopping 30 shots in regulation and overtime.
The Red Wings, playing their first game away from Little Caesars Arena this season and their second in 24 hours, were once again heavily shorthanded up front because of the absences of Marco Kasper, J.T. Compher, and Mason Appleton.
Additionally, defenseman Simon Edvinsson remains unsigned.

Detroit received a trio of breaks during the contest, as three would-be goals by the Canadiens would be overturned, including a snipe from Bolduc in overtime that was called back for offside.
Unfortunately for the Red Wings, it's the second time that they've been shut out through the first five games of the 2026-27 campaign.
The Red Wings will return home for another trio of games in downtown Detroit, starting Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils.
