Now, the team will be extending their run in the new uniforms for two games at Little Caesars Arena, beginning Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes and revitalizing them for a swan song against the Buffalo Sabres on the 12th of March.
As recent history shows, it's not always easy to design an alternate or novelty jersey for a franchise with as iconic a look as you can find in North American sports. Too adventurous and you risk impiety, too safe and you risk boredom. With the Stadium Series look, the Red Wings seemed to arrive at an ideal balance.

The distinctive, football-style winged helmets were a smash hit, while the script popped on the large stage of Ohio Stadium. Previous Red Wings alternates (whether from their prior outdoor appearances or the NHL's Reverse Retro initiative) drew much more mixed reviews, while these most recent alternates managed to pull off a jersey without the iconic Winged Wheel crest front and center that still earned rave reviews.
