According to longtime beat writer Helene St. James of The Detroit Free Press, the Detroit Red Wings are utilizing a search firm as they look for a replacement for GM Steve Yzerman.
It's been nearly one month since the Detroit Red Wings announced a major leadership transition, as GM Steve Yzerman vacated his role as general manager and moved to a senior advisor role to Governor and CEO Chris Ilitch.
While the club announced that both internal and external candidates would be considered as a successor to Yzerman, no names have been officially released as to who they could be considering.
In the meantime, the Red Wings have enlisted a search firm to help identify Yzerman's replacement, longtime Detroit Free Press beat writer Helene St. James reported Wednesday.
According to St. James, assistant GM Shawn Horcoff is also overseeing day-to-day responsibilities, albeit not with trades.

Whoever takes over the role as GM of the Red Wings will have several tasks ahead of them as they take control of a historic Original 6 club that is currently stuck in the longest active playoff drought in the NHL, and the longest in club history.
Of course, there's also the Dylan Larkin situation to deal with. It's been two months since Larkin's trade request went public; Yzerman wasn't able to facilitate a trade with any of the three clubs that Larkin reportedly would accept a move to.
