That sounds like the perfect recipe for the Red Wings, but they are still looking for upgrades. And they were in the mix on a recently traded defender by the sound of things.
According to Elliotte Friedman, in the latest 32 Thoughts episode released on Monday, the Red Wings have been looking to add a defender.
“I think he’s been looking for a defenseman,” Elliotte said of Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman. “I think he was looking at (Ryan) Lindgren. I think he also had some interest in some guys who’ve been out there, like Will Borgen kind of guys.”
“I think it’s safe to say that’s been on his mind.”

Ryan Lindgren and Will Borgen are defensive-minded defenders. Borgen has been a rock for the New York Rangers since being traded from the Seattle Kraken, and Lindgren was just shipped to the Colorado Avalanche from the Rangers last week.
Of these two player types, Yzerman should be more interested in Borgen than Lindgren.
Borgen is right-handed, while Lindgren is left-handed, and the organization is set on lefties. With Jeff Petry’s injury and his expiring deal, Yzerman may see that as an opportunity to upgrade on that position.
While it’s true that the Red Wings could use a center, they must not neglect adding a long-term piece to their blueline so they can remain competitive for many years to come.
