HBD, Copper! 🥳
The Ann Arbor, Michigan native joined his hometown team back in July of 2022 when he signed a five-year, $28.125 million contract. The deal marked a significant homecoming after stints with the Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers after attending the University of Michigan.
When joining the lineup, Copp brought a newfound depth to Detroit's middle-six forward group and quickly became one of head coach Derek Lalonde’s most trusted forwards.
In his first season with the Red Wings in 2022–23, Copp played all 82 games and posted a solid 42 points, including nine goals and 33 assists. His play, like others with his same type of role, often went beyond the scoresheet as he made an impact in other ways like matchup roles and killing penalties.

One of his most memorable performances came early in the 2023-24 season, in early October when he recorded his first multi-goal game with the franchise when scoring twice in a 5–2 win over the Nashville Predators.
This past season, Copp was on pace for another solid year with 23 points through 56 games. However, the season took a turn for the worst as during his 700th career NHL appearance last February, he tore left pectoral tendon, effectively ending his season. Earlier in the game, Copp recorded his 300th NHL point but the injury certainly took away from what was a massive milestone night.
Despite the saddening news, Copp’s leadership and consistent effort has left a lasting impression on the organization as fans see a player that is happy and proud to be a Detroit Red Wing. Copp embodies the kind of work ethic the city of Detroit prides itself on and makes him a leader on the team.
Now entering his fourth year with the Red Wings, Copp is expected to make a full and healthy return to the lineup and is ready to contribute and be a difference maker once again.
