Former Detroit Red Wings forward Sergei Fedorov, who was a major component of three Stanley Cup victories while thrilling fans with his dazzling on-ice play, will finally have his iconic No. 91 raised to the rafters at Little Caesars Arena in the upcoming 2025-26 NHL season.

The Red Wings made the official announcement earlier this week that a special ceremony will be held prior to a matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes on January 12.

Fedorov, who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015, will become the ninth former Red Wings player to have his jersey number retired.

Currently, Fedorov isn't involved with the Red Wings in any official capacity as are many of his former teammates like Steve Yzerman, Nicklas Lidstrom, Kris Draper, and Kirk Maltby.

However, Fedorov said that he'd be open to official employment within the organization if he were asked.

“That’s a fair thought. If Detroit’s management wants me involved professionally, I’d be happy to do it," he said via RG.org. "I’d gladly share my experience, mentor young players, and help raise the next generation of Red Wings champions.”

Not only was Fedorov one of the most electric players in both Red Wings and NHL history, but he's already imparted his wisdom of the game on younger generations of players as a coach in the KHL with CSKA Moscow for three seasons, for whom he was also the general manager for five seasons.

Whether Fedorov could potentially be involved in Detroit's front office in the near future remains to be seen, but he sounded open to the idea.

Fedorov also said that he'd have plenty of friends and family with him for his big night in January.

“I don’t know all the details [on the ceremony] yet," he said. "What I do know is that I’ll have around 50 close friends and family with me. They’ll be coming from all over the world, not just Russia. As for the rest—that’s up to the organizers.”
