Tragedy struck close to home over the weekend with the tragic passing of Michigan State University Division II player Preston Korytkowski.

Tragic news has emerged from the Mitten State following the passing of a Michigan State University hockey player.

Multiple reports have confirmed that Preston Korytkowski, who had played the last four years with Michigan State as part of Division II hockey in the American Collegiate Hockey Association, lost his life after his 2011 Honda CRV collided with the back of a semi-truck that had been stopped on the right shoulder after becoming disabled.

The accident took place on I-95 North in Caroline County, Virginia.

Korytkowski, a Rockford native, was pronounced deceased at the scene at just 22 years old.

Shortly afterward, the Spartans' ACHA Instagram account confirmed the tragic passing.

"Posting this with a heavy heart," the message read. "Our teammate, friend and Captain Preston sadly passed away last evening."
