This evening, former Detroit Red Wings winger Jakub Vrana officially earned an NHL contract with the Washington Capitals after joining the team for training camp on a PTO. Now, he's signed a one-year, one-way contract worth $775,000. The Capitals drafted Vrana in 2014, and, with the Capitals, Vrana won the Stanley Cup four years later, scoring the opening goal in the clinching Game Five in Las Vegas. He spent parts of three seasons in Detroit between 2021 and 2023.

"Being able to get a chance to be back in the league and on top of everything, it's this organization and this team, it's great, man. I've been here before, and I had a great time, and it's great to be back here." As those comments suggest and his PTO made self-evident, Vrana's NHL future was by no means assured heading into training camp. Now, he's officially earned another NHL season.
