One of the biggest stories surrounding the Detroit Red Wings in recent weeks was their reported trade offer to the Vancouver Canucks for veteran defenseman Tyler Myers.
The 36-year-old Houston native has a no-move clause in his contract, which allows him to veto any trade proposals involving him. The Red Wings reportedly offered a second-round pick for Myers, bringing the clause to light.
Initial reports suggested that Myers declined Detroit’s offer. However, sources later clarified that he was open to moving but was waiting for an opportunity to join the Dallas Stars, his home-state team. Myers eventually was traded to Dallas for a second- and fourth-round pick, providing a natural fit as the Stars were also in the market for a defenseman.

TSN’s Darren Dreger told the Sekeres & Price podcast that if Dallas had chosen a different direction, Myers likely would have waived his no-move clause to accept Detroit’s original offer. That raises an intriguing “what if” for the Red Wings, as adding Myers could have affected their approach at the trade deadline, including whether they pursued defenseman Justin Faulk or made other moves to reshape their blue line.
