Minnesota targets Detroit’s captain as trade talks intensify, weighing a package of veteran grit and young talent to bridge the gap in prospect evaluations and blockbuster expectations.

On Wednesday, The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta provided additional details on what could be an emerging trade package the Minnesota Wild are considering for Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin.

The latest report follows Tuesday’s update from Sportsnet’s Frank Seravalli, who revealed that Minnesota and Detroit had differing opinions on forward Danila Yurov’s value in potential trade discussions.

The Wild reportedly view Yurov as a potential cornerstone of a package for Larkin, but the Red Wings may not share the same level of enthusiasm for the young forward. While Minnesota could see him developing into a top-six contributor, Detroit may view him as more of a top-nine option, creating a significant gap in the two sides’ evaluations.

Pagnotta has since added to the speculation, identifying additional Minnesota forwards whose names have surfaced in discussions. According to the NHL insider, veteran forward Ryan Hartman has been mentioned, while depth winger Bobby Brink has also reportedly come up as a potential piece of the deal.

However, it remains unclear whether a package built around Yurov, Hartman, and Brink would be enough to convince Detroit to part with its captain and top-line center. The Red Wings would likely be looking for a worthwhile return that addresses the loss of a premier top-six center.

No deal involving Larkin has materialized, and the reported discussions remain speculative. Still, with teams now out of the Connor Hellebuyck sweepstakes after the New Jersey Devils landed the superstar goaltender, some clubs could shift their attention toward Detroit and its star center. If interest intensifies, the Larkin situation could develop quickly, although there is no guarantee a trade will come together.

The 30-year-old Michigan native is coming off a career-best offensive campaign, recording 34 goals and 33 assists for 67 points in 74 games. He has continued to produce this season, collecting one goal and four assists for five points through eight games.
