As a cornerstone exits the lineup, former first-round pick Michael Rasmussen unexpectedly emerges as the senior figurehead across the city's professional landscape following seven seasons in Detroit.
On Thursday, the Detroit Red Wings announced they were suspending center Dylan Larkin without pay, and based on comments from Larkin's agent, he has likely played his last game for the team. Moving forward without the Michigan native, the Red Wings have a new longest-tenured player, and it may be a name few would expect.

The next closest on the Red Wings are Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond, who both debuted in 2021-22. On the Tigers, the closest are Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene, who both started in 2022. For the Lions, it is punter Jack Fox, who started in 2020, and for the Pistons it is Cade Cunningham, who started in 2021-22.
Over his time in Detroit, Rasmussen has played 467 games, recording 67 goals and 90 assists for 157 points, with a career high of 33 points in 2023-24. This season, the 27-year-old Surrey, British Columbia native has a goal and two assists for three points in 13 games.
His skating has been far above average, with 31 speed bursts between 20 and 22 miles per hour, which ranks in the 88th percentile of the NHL and is nearly double the league average of 15.9 bursts.
