Fabbri Steps Away from Red Wings for Personal Reasons, Will Miss Start of Detroit's Road Trip
The Red Wings held their final practice this afternoon at the BELFOR Performance Center inside Little Caesars Arena before a four-game road trip through Western Canada and ending in Seattle, and forward Robby Fabbri was not a participant.
After practice, coach Derek Lalonde provided an update on Fabbri's status: "Fabbri, personal reasons, I won't expect him to be away from our team for long, so he's not going to go on the front end of the trip. We would expect to have him in Vancouver."
If Lalonde's timeline holds, that would mean the Red Wings would miss Fabbri for just one game (Tuesday night in Edmonton against the Oilers) before he would (or at least could) return to the lineup on Thursday against the Canucks.
Fabbri played 12:36, earning a -1 rating and putting three shots on goal, in Saturday's win over Vancouver. For the season, he has 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points in 39 games played, providing an offensive spark from the bottom six and overcoming some early season injury struggles to serve as a reliable presence in the lineup.
With Fabbri out of the lineup, Klim Kostin—a healthy scratch on Saturday—should fold back into the team, joining Daniel Sprong and Joe Veleno on Detroit's fourth line. Fortunately for Lalonde and the Red Wings, it does not appear that Fabbri will be out of action for a prolonged period.
