Over the course of a 19-season NHL career, Vernon played for the Red Wings, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks, and Florida Panthers—posting a career record of 385-274-92 to the tune of an .889 save percentage and 3.00 goals against average.

Vernon won the Stanley Cup in 1989 with Calgary, then repeated the feat in 1997 with Detroit, when he also captured the Conn Smythe Trophy as post-season MVP.  In tandem with Chris Osgood, Vernon also took home the 1995-96 William M. Jennings Trophy, awarded to the goaltending duo that concedes the fewest goals over the course of the regular season.

He played for the Red Wings for three seasons from 1994-1997—going 53-24-14, while putting up a .898 SV % and 2.40 goals against average (the latter figure was his best at any of his four stops).

Pierre Turgeon, Caroline Ouellette, Henrik Lundqvist, Pierre Lacroix, Ken Hitchcock, and Tom Barrasso rounded out the seven-member Class of 2023.
