Michigan native Henry Brzustewicz hopes to hear his name called in the second round, ideally by his hometown Red Wings.

The NHL draft is just a few days away and with all the mock drafts from every media outlet, it's difficult to find much on an individual player's talents besides the first couple of picks. One that Michigan natives should look out for is Washington, Michigan native Henry Brzustewicz. 

The 18-year-old 6-foot-1 blueliner is ranked among the top 40 prospects according to EliteProspects's consolidated rankings of 15 different draft boards from all of the biggest junior hockey insiders in the world.

Some insiders have Brzustewicz as a first-round talent with The Hockey News' Tony Ferrari ranking him as the 31st best available prospect in the draft class. 

Brzustewicz is noted as being a very safe, stay-at-home defenceman that plays with a quiet way about him and strides to make safe, reliable plays rather than the game-breaking moves of a Lane Hutson.

A high-end comparison would be Jonas Brodin of the Minnesota Wild, a similar sized defenceman at 6-foot-1 who isn't known for making massive offensive plays but is reliable on the backend and can shut down the best of forwards. 

Brzustewicz is coming off a stellar offensive season for a blueliner with ten goals and 32 assists for 42 points in 67 games with the London Knights of the OHL.

He started his hockey career with the Detroit Little Caesars at the Brick invitational tournament where he recorded three goals and two assists for five points across two tournament apperances.

He also represented Michigan at the USA Under‑17 Select 17-tier league and recorded a point through six games. His numbers aren't the most impressive but his accolades speak for themselves as he played a major role in the London Knights run to the Memorial Cup Finals last season before falling to the Saginaw Spirit. 

Brzustewicz and the Knights came back this season and finished what they started with a Memorial Cup victory in dominating fashion as they finished with just one loss in the tournament. During the postseason, Brzustewicz finished with five points, 17 penalty minutes and a +9 rating through 17 games. 

The Red Wings are selecting 44th overall in the second round and may have the opportunity to bring home a local kid as Brzustewicz is ranked around the late 30 to early 40 mark in most insider rankings.
