One of the breakout prospects for the Detroit Red Wings organization during the recent World Junior Championships was 18-year-old Slovakian goaltender Michal Pradel. He was initially listed as the backup, but gradually took over his team’s crease, earning attention with a series of dazzling performances.
Pradel stepped in during the second game of a back-to-back and quickly showed why he could be his team’s go-to goalie. While his final tournament statistics, including a 1-3-0 record, 4.11 goals-against average, and a .877 save percentage, might not tell the full story, those who watched him closely noted moments of exceptional skill, including several highlight-reel saves against some of the top junior players in the world.
Following his World Junior experience, Pradel is set to move from the USHL’s Tri-City Storm to the NCAA, joining Colorado College’s Tigers next season. At 19, he will have the chance to continue developing against older, faster, and stronger competition, sharpening his game in one of the fastest-growing leagues in junior hockey.

Colorado College has established itself as a competitive middle-tier program, capable of pulling off impressive results. This past season, the Tigers opened with a win over No. 10 UConn and split back-to-back games against top-ranked teams including No. 4 Minnesota-Duluth, No. 16 Providence, and No. 4 North Dakota.
Pradel’s USHL season with Tri-City reflected both promise and growth. He posted a 10-9-4 record, a 2.50 goals-against average, a .918 save percentage, and three shutouts, showing his ability to handle heavy workloads while keeping his team competitive. Next season, he will face new challenges and opportunities, building on the foundation he laid during his World Junior showcase and his time in the USHL.
