The future in goal looks increasingly bright for the Detroit Red Wings, and while much of the attention has been focused on top prospects Sebastian Cossa and Trey Augustine, another name is quickly rising through the ranks.
Rudy Guimond, a 2025 sixth-round pick, is making a strong case to be part of Detroit’s long-term plans after a dominant run in the QMJHL. The 20-year-old Pointe-Claire, Quebec native has developed into a standout with the Moncton Wildcats, helping turn the club into a powerhouse since his arrival.
Guimond first grabbed widespread attention last season when he caught fire in the playoffs, posting an 8-1-0 record while backstopping Moncton to a league championship and the Gilles-Courteau Trophy.
He has carried that momentum into this season and elevated his game even further. On Sunday, Guimond was named the recipient of the Jacques Plante Trophy, awarded to the top goaltender in the QMJHL. His numbers tell the story of his dominance with a 40-7-3 record, a 2.27 goals-against average, and a .922 save percentage.

Guimond also etched his name into the record books, surpassing Colten Ellis with a 2.14 goals-against average. His stellar play was a driving force behind another elite season for Moncton, as the Wildcats finished with the best record in the regular season and captured the Jean Rougeau Trophy.
The next step in Guimond’s development will present a new challenge as he is set to join Harvard University at the NCAA level next season, where he will face older and more physically developed competition.
For the Red Wings, that transition will be closely watched and with Cossa and Augustine already headlining the pipeline, Guimond’s emergence adds another intriguing layer to an already deep pool of goaltending talent.
