Vincent Desharnais is getting good money to join the Washington Capitals. The former Edmonton Oilers defenseman just signed a four-year, $16.8 million deal, one that carries an annual average salary of $4.2 million. 

Is this too much for a blueliner of his caliber? Or, has he earned this based on his play over the past few seasons?
