The Edmonton Oilers, in an announcement on Monday, have reassigned goaltender Connor Ungar to the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears, easing a logjam in the organization’s crease. With Calvin Pickard clearing waivers and joining Matt Tomkins in Bakersfield, Ungar was left without a clear path to consistent AHL starts.

The 24-year-old rookie has impressed this season, posting a 1.54 goals-against average and .944 save percentage across multiple ECHL stops. But as a waiver-exempt prospect in his first pro year, he needs steady minutes — something Edmonton or Bakersfield couldn’t guarantee.

With Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram holding down the NHL tandem, Ungar remains a developmental priority, not trade bait, and an important piece of the Oilers’ future.
