Leon Draisaitl pushed McDavid to score 60 plus goals this year.

The Edmonton Oilers dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are both accustomed to leading the league in points. Draisaitl is used to scoring 50 or more goals in a season yet McDavid's career high before 2022-23 was 44.

During the European Players' Media Tour back in August of 2022, Draisaitl sat down with the hosts of the 32 Thoughts Podcast: Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman. In their wide ranging discussion the topic of Draisaitl and McDavid being brutally honest with each other came up.

This summer I said to him that he needs to score 60 goals, because I know that he can. And I think he should be every year, he's just that unselfish.

If it wasn't for these frank conversations between the Oilers' dynamic duo we would not have gotten a 60+ goal season from McDavid. It would happen eventually, McDavid is too good for it to not happen. But to have elite players push their teammates to new heights is exactly what you want to see.

These podcast interviews are refreshing for fans of hockey. It helps fans to see a side of these players that doesn't come out when they are trying to win games on the ice. Now that McDavid has his 60-goal season, when will Draisaitl get his? I'm sure that's a topic that the duo will discuss this summer.
