The Edmonton Oilers are feeling the pinch right now. It's still incredibly early in the season, but you can see that they are sick of hearing the same questions about mistakes.
Leon Draisait, Stuart Skinner.Let's remember - yes they are athletes, but they are also people. They can't dwell on the negatives. Here are my three takeaways from the loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
Darnell Nurse scored one of the two goals for the Oilers tonight. It probably felt good for him to get that monkey off of his back. Both he and Evan Bouchard scored tonight.
Nurse is an excellent even strength scorer, and he followed good on that tonight. The goal was also his first point of the season.
The penalties called in this game seemed very inconsistent. There was a holding call on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins that was more of a stick tap, in addition to several other calls. It didn't seem like there was any rhyme or reason to the calls that were being made.
Mattias Ekholm is the best two way defender that the Oilers have on their blue line. So it was surprising to see that the Swedish rearguard had four giveaways over the course of the game. To balance the scales, he also had three takeaways.
Ekholm played a season high 21:16 tonight. He still seems off here and there with his reads and foot speed at times. But for the most part the defender looks to be back into game shape.
