Some things of note from the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Edmonton Oilers have a bit of work to do. They'll be the first to tell you that last night was a game they want to quickly move on from. They'll get a chance to move on tomorrow night, when the Winnipeg Jets come to town.

    Zach Hyman, Carter Hart.

    Power Play Comes Up Short

The Oilers went 0-2 in last night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers. That was the first time this year that they haven't scored a power play goal. That's not a cause for concern, especially at this stage of the season.

What's more concerning is the shorthanded goal against that they surrendered. Again, it's too early to be truly concerned, but the Oilers will be sure to make an adjustment to make sure that doesn't happen again.

    Too Little, Too Late

After only mustering seven shots in the first period, the Oilers pressed hard in the second frame. Zach Hyman scored the only goal for the Oilers while the team was pressing. They fired 12 shots on goal by the end of the second but only came away with the one goal - and were down 3-1 heading into the third period.

In the third, they only had four shots. It's nearly impossible to stage a comeback when you only have four shots in the last period.

    Flyers Wanted the Win More

The Flyers closed out the game with 16 shots in the third period. They played like a team that wanted to win. They were never going to hand the Oilers the game. They were hard working and incredibly disciplined - only taking two penalties the entire game.
