The Edmonton Oilers defeated a veteran Calgary Flames line-up with an AHL roster of their own.

The Edmonton Oilers keep rolling through the pre-season. They defeated the Calgary Flames by a 2-1 score in overtime last night. It was an impressive win on several fronts.

The Flames were the home team and iced a heavy NHL veteran line-up. Conversely, the Oilers sent most of their depth players to Calgary. A few of these players are looking to solidify their place on the roster this season.

Dylan Holloway

Dylan Holloway played very well all night. He was decisive, skated well and was the best Oilers player all night.

Holloway scored the game trying goal in the last two minutes of the third period to send the game to overtime.

Jack Campbell

Jack Campbell looked incredibly solid in his 60+ minutes. He looked like the Campbell the Oilers were expecting him to be last season.

Stopping 34 of 35 shots, Campbell was the biggest reason the Oilers came away with a win. He played great and hopefully this is a sign of how he'll start the regular season.

Veterans vs Depth

Brett Kulak, Cody Ceci, Derek Ryan and Warren Foegele were the only NHL regulars from last season who played for the Oilers last night. Vincent Desharnais and Holloway played NHL games last year and will look to solidify roster spots for this year.

The Flames dressed an NHL heavy roster that looked very close to what they might have on opening night. To have the Oilers team defeat the Flames is a testament to the work ethic and competition on display at this year's training camp.
