The Edmonton Oilers got their first win of the season with a 6-1 decision over the Nashville Predators.
Mattias Ekholm received a rapturous round of applause during a tribute video last night. That speaks to the character and impact that Ekholm can have on the game, his teammates, and the city he plays in.
And he's a member of your Edmonton Oilers.
The Oilers snapped a two-game losing streak with a 6-1 victory over the Nashville Predators. They took a lead in the first and never let go, their secondary scoring got going and their goalie was red hot.
4-0 Lead After First Period
The Oilers hopped out to a 4-0 lead by the end of the first period. This was on the back of goals by Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and a highlight reel goal by a certain Connor McDavid.
The Predators clawed and scrapped to get back into the game, but it was too little, too late. The damage was done.
Foegele Nets First Points of Season
Warren Foegele was elevated to the second line in practice on Monday, and made good on his new role. He sniped a beautiful shot from the right faceoff dot.
Foegele has all the tools to be an excellent complimentary top-six winger. His first game there was a great sign that he's ready to take on that assignment.
Pre-Season Campbell is Back (or never left)
Jack Campbell faced 43 shots and saved 42 of them. He is the reason this game stayed in the Oilers favor.
In his post game comments he mentioned that he "made some tweaks" to his game after seeing the tape from opening night.
"Those adjustments paid off."
