Three interesting statistics from the Edmonton Oilers loss to the Minnesota Wild.

The Edmonton Oilers will be harder on themselves than the media and fans are on them.

The Edmonton Oilers have officially dropped to 1-4-1 following a 7-4 defeat at the hands of Pat Maroon and the Minnesota Wild. They were up 3-2 heading into the third period - but five goals (the first three unanswered) were too much for the Oilers to overcome.

Despite this, there are a few interesting statistics that emerged from the game - one involves a fight, a two-goal night and the first five point night of the season in the NHL.

Kane Loves to Fight

Evander Kane is no stranger to fighting. He was signed by the Oilers because of his combination of skill and brawn. Last night he recorded his second straight game with a fight. He fought Brenden Dillion of the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday and followed that up with a tilt against Brandon Duhaime last night.

Kane had a big night on multiple fronts. In 19:49 of ice time he scored a goal and an assist. He added three shots, four hits, and his one fight. This was the kind of night Kane needed to get his mojo going.

Contract Year Foegele

Warren Foegele is in the last year of a three-year $2.75-million contract. He scored in the last two minutes of the first period and within 32 seconds of the second period.

Players often play well in their contract years, and Foegele is no exception so far in 2023-24. In six games he has three goals and an assist. Oddly enough, he only played 13:38 last night - the third lowest ice time for a forward behind Derek Ryan and Adam Erne.

Hartman's 5-Point Night

Ryan Hartman of the Minnesota Wild, became the first player to record a five point game in the 2023-24 season. He netted a hat trick to go along with two assists - and two of his goals came in the third period.

The Oilers next game comes on Thursday October 26th, where they take on the New York Rangers. It's another 7pm Mountain Time start, with a special ceremony to induct Charlie Huddy and Doug Weight into the Edmonton Oilers hall of fame.
