Andrei Vasilevskiy was the only reason why the Edmonton Oilers didn't score more.
The Edmonton Oilers winning streak has come to an end at eight games. They lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning 7-4 on the heels of a four-goal night for Steven Stamkos. The Oilers found themselves in a hole early - with Stamkos scoring just over a minute into the game and Tyler Motte six minutes later.
They stormed back in a big way in the second period. Darnell Nurse got the Oilers on the board with a shorthanded goal 1:23 into the period - his first shorthanded goal of the year.
Then a few minutes later they scored two more goals within three minutes. Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman scored, giving the Oilers the lead for the first time in the game.
After accumulating 15 shots in the first period they ramped it up to 23 shots in the second. Andrei Vasilevskiy proved why he is a Vezina Trophy favorite virtually every year.
They would add another 17 shots in the third period to bring their total to 55 shots on Vasilevskiy. The Lightning only mustered 24 shots against the Oilers over sixty minutes - but it was enough for them to win the game.
There were many jaw-dropping saves in the second period from Vasilevskiy, the Lightning are lucky that the game wasn't 6-2 after the second period.
At the end of the day the Oilers ran into a fantastic goalie who was on the top of his game tonight.
