Edmonton Oilers versus Florida Panthers game predictions and preview for December 16th, 2023.
The Edmonton Oilers will look to start a new winning streak tonight against the Florida Panthers. The Oilers have 27 points and sit three points outside of the last Wild Card Position in the Western Conference while the Panthers have 36 points and sit third in the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference.
This is the second of two meetings this year between the two teams. These teams last played each other almost a month ago on November 20th. They lost to the Panthers 5-3. The Oilers came out of the gate with a two-goal lead but couldn't stave off the Panthers.
Not only is this the final game against the Panthers this season, this game will conclude the Oilers present six-game home stand.
The 17-10-2 Panthers are a surprisingly good defensive team this season. Their penalty kill is 11th in the NHL. They also rank seventh in the league for goals against per game with 2.62.
The Oilers eight game winning streak has helped them build up their offensive numbers. They boast the fourth best power play in the NHL with the fifth best goals for per game in the NHL, scoring 3.52 times on average.
Today's game will be a battle of special teams. Can the Oilers recent penalty kill prowess negate any momentum the Panthers receive from going up on the man advantage? Can the Panthers withstand the red-hot Oilers power play?
We will find out tonight.
Game time tonight is 8PM Mountain Time.
