The Edmonton Oilers have improved to 16-15-1 after a 5-0 win against the San Jose Sharks. The win was revenge for the 3-2 loss in early November that ultimately led to the dismissal of Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson.

Magnus Chrona was pulled at the end of the first period and Kaapo Kahkonen came out for the second period and played the rest of the game. Chrona allowed four goals on 12 shots. The last time Chrona played was on November 4th against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He also allowed four goals but this time on 17 shots against.
Chrona has a combined 13 games played between the San Jose Barricuda (AHL) and the Wichita Thunder (ECHL). In his two ECHL games he has a 2.94 goals against average (GAA) and a .940 save percentage (SV%). His AHL numbers are less impressive - 3.35 GAA and .900 - which are still better than Jack Campbell's numbers (for what it's worth).

Kahkonen has been having a much better season, but didn't start the game because he had played the night before. Although his 3.61 GAA and .900 SV% aren't anything to write home about, his play has been a bright spot for the team.
With the win the Oilers now have 33 points - five points back of the Nashville Predators for the last Wild Card position in the Western Conference.
Of all the teams currently in or competing for a Wild Card position the Oilers have scored the most goals with 113 while only one other team has surrendered less goals against. Having now won three games in a row, I expect that the disparity in these numbers will continue to grow as the team gains momentum.

The Oilers next game is against the Los Angeles Kings tomorrow night at 8 PM Mountain Time.
