The Edmonton Oilers improve to 8-12-1 on the season after a 5-4 shootout win against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Evan Bouchard. The Oilers got contributions up and down their lineup as Mattias Janmark, Sam Gagner, Evander Kane and Connor McDavid all scored in the victory.
They were in command of the game from the opening puck drop until six minutes left in the third period. At that point, things got a little hairy with a couple fluky goals in favor of the Golden Knights.
Connor McDavid."The way we played those first 54 minutes if we can ice that game more often than not I think we're going to be just fine," was how Mattias Ekholm saw the game as a whole. He's choosing to focus on those minutes rather than the last few of regulation.
"I'm more focusing on that rather than whether we win in the shootout or not."
With the start to the year that the Oilers had they needed to focus on everything they were doing well. In hopes that they could start to relax the grip on their sticks and just play hockey.
The game wasn't perfect, and it wasn't a "full 60" - but with an Oilers team chasing a playoff position, they can't be too picky about how they get two points.
