    Live blog of the Edmonton Oilers vs Calgary Flames Heritage Classic game.

    The Edmonton Oilers are set to take on the Calgary Flames in a Battle of Alberta on ice. Keep this page bookmarked for every for all live updates.

    Mattias Janmark did not take part in warm ups. So the Oilers will go with this lineup:

    First Period:

    18:44 - There have been two whistles. Both teams have had some prolonged time in the opponents end. 0-0.

    17:53 - Jacob Markstom doesn't allow a rebound after a Connor McDavid shot.

    16:56 - Turnover for Oilers, leads to a great scoring chance. Puck doesn't go across the line.

    16:20- Leon Draisaitl gets a good chance on Markstrom.

    15:52- Evander Kane with a great chance that's stopped.

    15:41- GOAL. Brett Kulak shovels in a shot from the right side of the net.

    14:13-Oilers ice the puck. Shots are 8-0 for the Oilers.

    13:54- Stuart Skinner gloves the first shot of the Flames for an easy save. Holds on for a whistle.

    13:30- Turnover in favor of Oilers. Then Kane boards a Flames player. Power play for Flames now.

    12:45-Draisaitl kicks the puck down the ice after his stick breaks. The referees are calling that another penalty. 5-on-3 for Flames now.

    11:47- Some nifty passes by the Flames on the power play. A couple shots, no goal yet. Still 1-0 Oilers.

    11:14: Oilers survive the 5-on-3 unscathed. Kane comes out of the penalty box and gets a chance on net.

    10:22- GOAL. Zach Hyman taps in a goal from a brilliant pass from Draisaitl - fresh out of the penalty box. 2-0 Oilers.

    9:28- Kane and Nikita Zadorov exchanging heated words with each other after a stoppage of play.

    7:27- Skinner makes a save despite a Flames player practically sitting on him. Still 2-0 Oilers.

    7:04- Holding penalty called on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers third penalty of the game so far.

    6:30- Another Oilers penalty. Roughing called on Darnell Nurse for punching a Flames player. Another 5-on-3 power play opportunity for the Flames.

    5:05- GOAL. Nazem Kadri scores with one second remaining in the first of the two penalties. Flames still have a 5-on-4 power play. 2-1 Oilers.

    3:54- GOAL. Evan Bouchard fires a slap shot from the point that finds it's way in. 3-1 Oilers.

    3:35- Oilers just get another great chance around the net with Warren Foegele and Nugent-Hopkins.

    2:00- Oilers get their first power play after an interference call on Blake Coleman. 3-1 Oilers.

    End of First- Oilers don't score on the power play but they get a few good chances.

    Summary: Oilers dictated the play for the majority of the play. Penalties slowed down their momentum a bit, but not by a lot.

    Second Period:

    19:22- Oilers pressuring early. Chances for McDavid and Foegele.

    16:13- Markstrom covers the puck after some sustained pressure from the Oilers.

    15:23- More pressure and chances from the Oilers. Draisaitl, McDavid and Foegele are generating a lot of dangerous chances.

    14:20- Nurse knocks the puck down to keep the pressure on the Flames.

    11:03- Flames with a bit of zone time in the offensive end for them. 

    10:32- Penalty against the Oilers. Vincent Desharnais receives an interference penalty.

    9:13- Connor Brown comes down the left wing and fires a shot towards the net that gets deflected out of the rink. 3-1 still for the Oilers. Shots are 22-8 for Oilers as well.

    8:32- GOAL. A.J Greer taps a rebound in on Skinner. 3-2 Oilers.

    6:50- Flames with some offensive zone time late in the Second Period. 

    2:48- Oilers get the puck out to relieve some pressure.

    End of Second Period - The Flames had more pressure on Skinner and the Oilers in the last five minutes of that period than the whole game to this point.

    Summary: Flames fought back in the Second Period. Oilers need to find their killer instinct in the Third to put the game away.

    Third Period:

    19:37- Quick icing against Oilers to start the third period.

    18:35- Kane with another big hit. That's his 5th of the night.

    14:27- Skinner covers the puck after a few minutes of back and forth between the Flames and Oilers. Dylan Holloway had a brilliant chance but couldn't tuck the puck past Markstrom.

    13:57- McDavid line with a lot of great pressure on Markstrom. Including a great pass from McDavid to Foegele.

    13:44- GOAL. Desharnais shot from the point. 4-2 Oilers.

    12:55- Holding penalty called, the Oilers are on their second power play of the night.

    11:27- Not a lot going right for the Oilers on this power play. It's a struggle to maintain offensive zone time.

    7:19- Penalty against Kane. Another power play for the Flames.

    6:00- Oilers get an important clear on this power play. Still 4-2 Oilers.

    4:10- Flames with some push back here late in the third.

    2:45- Flames have pulled Markstrom for an extra attacker.

    0:46- GOAL. Kane scores an empty net goal to virtually seal the game in the Oilers favor.

    Oilers win. Final score 5-2.
