The Edmonton Oilers lost their first game of the season against the Vancouver Canucks. But I'm confident that kind of performance won't happen again.
The Edmonton Oilers have begun their 2023-24 regular season with an 8-1 loss at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks. The one positive out of a game that didn't have very many, is that it was only the first game. Things can (and will) get better.)
Simply put, the Oilers were outplayed on every level. The Canucks came to the game with something to prove - the Oilers showed up as if they already proved something, without having played a regular season game yet.
Stuart Skinner. It should be noted that both teams played with only 11 forwards and six defensemen. For the Oilers, they did not have Mattias Ekholm on the blue line. Could he have stopped the bleeding tonight?
Regardless of who was injured and who played, it was a poor game on every front. Each goalie allowed four goals, star players were taking poor penalties.
Simply not good enough.
The Oilers get a chance at redemption with a home game against the Canucks on Saturday.
