The NHL could have built more hype for Connor Bedard, but made an egregious error instead.
Connor Bedard has been labelled as the next generational talent in the NHL. He already has three points in his first four games, while logging 21:13 minutes of ice time on average.
Connor Bedard.Those four games were against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. Bedard has faced elite competition right out of the gate - especially going up against Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on the opening day of the season.
Looking at the Chicago Blackhawks schedule one thing sticks out like a sore thumb. Why do they not play Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers until December 12th?
Will all of the in-game interviews and highlights of Bedard that the NHL is pushing, how did it make sense to have him face off against another generational talent in December? How was that not a consideration?
Connor McDavid.Connor vs. Connor would be a great marketing tool, but once again the NHL has missed the mark with scheduling. They missed the mark by not opening the Oilers season with a Battle of Alberta, and they've missed the mark with this.
The Blackhawks play the Bruins twice this month. You mean to tell me they couldn't have changed that second game against the Bruins to the Oilers?
The NHL has dropped the ball, but at least the Blackhawks vs Oilers game comes close to Christmas.
