EDMONTON -- Greatness and Connor McDavid go hand in hand.

That's one of many takeaways from the Edmonton Oilers captain's first decade. His speed and skill with the puck are unmatched across the entire league. He keeps to himself but has time for the fans and media alike.
He's also broken a lot of records.
Most recently, he broke the single playoff season assist record en route to claiming the Conn Smythe Trophy in a losing cause this past summer. During the regular season, he scored 100 assists, one of two players to do it last year, and now one of five players to do it in their career.
The next milestone is clear -- scoring 1000 career points. McDavid is a sniff away from it, with 995 points on his stat sheet. He missed his opportunity to be the third-fastest, but he has 15 games to be the fourth-fastest.

If McDavid can score five more points in the next 34 days, he will officially be the fourth-youngest to score 1000 points in their NHL career. Steve Yzerman was the third youngest to achieve the milestone. He was 27 years and 291 days old on February 24, 1993, when he hit the memorable milestone.
Doing so would allow him to beat Sidney Crosby. The Penguins captain was 29 years and 193 days old when he scored his 1000th point. Crosby was the last player to be labeled a generational talent.

Achieving this milestone would be a special way for McDavid to show his greatness.
