Evander Kane was the victim of surprising racial discrimination.
EDMONTON -- By and large, it's been a great summer for Evander Kane.

Outside of the speculation regarding the Edmonton Oilers' winger's health, Kane has (seemingly) had a relaxing summer. Unfortunately, that peaceful vibe was disrupted yesterday in a big way.
Kane took to his Instagram stories to reveal a surprising incident.
He posted a video where Kane can be heard saying, "that's what you just said, 'you people don't belong here'," to a white man on a bicycle. According to his caption on the post, that white man spat on Kane's vehicle while driving past him.
The entire caption reads, "this cyclist was riding his bike past my vehicle and decided to spit on it as he rode by. And then confronted him as he tried to deny the claim luckily a friend of mine who was driving in the area, pulled over to intervene in our conversation. This gentleman proceeded to tell me and my friend and I quote 'you people don't belong here.' It's incredibly disappointing [that] there are still people like this today."

This kind of behavior cannot be tolerated. To his credit, it appears that Kane handled the situation with a level head. However, that is not always how these altercations can go.
Just like everyone else, Kane deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. Criticize his play on the ice all you want, but discriminating against race is extremely disappointing behaviour.
Hopefully Kane can move past this incident quickly and enjoy the rest of his summer.
