It was a historic night for the Nashville Predators defensive prospect.

Paul Coffey has been hired as the new defense coach for the Edmonton Oilers under Kris Knoblauch.

It's been four years since Luke Prokop was drafted by the Nashville Predators. Since his draft year he's only played in junior leagues... until tonight.

Prokop was called up to the AHL from the ECHL. He played nine games and collected five points while playing for the Atlanta Gladiators.

Prokop was born in Edmonton, Alberta. He started his WHL career playing for the Calgary Hitmen. Two years after being drafted he found himself playing for the Edmonton Oil Kings. He also participated in the second annual Pride Cup that took place in Edmonton's own Ice District.

This happening on the same night that the Winnipeg Jets are having their Pride Night makes it feel extra special.

Let's hope this is the first of many.
