A former Edmonton Oiler forward is projecting to return to the NHL earlier than anticipated.

Can Connor Brown play the whole season with Connor McDavid?

The Edmonton Oilers have cap issues galore to start this season - which is part of the reasoning behind them playing with 11 forwards and six defensemen in their opener this past Wednesday.

They still have two forwards on professional tryout agreements (PTO) who have not been signed. Could there be a third option for a PTO that has yet to be announced?

Enter, Jesse Puljujarvi.

According to MTV Urheilu, Puljujarvi's rehabilitation is progressing quite well. He had both hips operated on in June. He could be ready to return to the NHL by November.

They originally projected a six-month rehab for the Finnish forward. Being healthy before that time certainly increases his chances of returning to the NHL.

Up to the writing of this, there have been no contract negotiations regarding Puljujarvi and an NHL team. We will see if that changes in the next few weeks.
