EDMONTON -- Summer is slowly fading away.

Although most Edmonton Oilers fans have been treated to a mini heatwave to begin September, things will start cooling off soon enough. In other ways they will pick up, as Leon Draisaitl is still without an extension.
That doesn't mean that other players can't have news of their own.
After all, Connor McDavid celebrated his wedding earlier this summer. Draisaitl also celebrated his brand new engagement.
Former Oilers defenseman Tyson Barrie and his wife Emma are welcoming their new child.

On Sunday night she shared a post of six photos with the caption, "She's arrived. 08.19.2024."
Several of the photos shared are professional, which obviously takes time to coordinate. So it makes sense that their new bundle of joy is already a couple weeks old.

It's always an exciting time when a family expands. Often, it means more chaos as well. Hopefully the Barrie's are adjusting well to having their new addition at home.
On the professional side, Barrie remains unsigned with any NHL team. The last team he played for was the Nashville Predators. Because of injuries (and being a healthy scratch) he only played 41 games during the 2023-24 season.
Some hockey pundits have suggested that the Oilers could offer Barrie a PTO. Until the Oilers begin their captain skates and/or training camp, there won't be any official confirmation of this one way or the other.
Until then, Oilers fans can wait around for the Draisaitl extension announcement.
