A former defenseman for the Edmonton Oilers finds himself on waivers.

Edmonton Oilers will see Mattias Ekholm return to the lineup. Expected to be paired with Evan Bouchard.

The Edmonton Oilers have a solidified group of seven defensemen. With Darnell Nurse, Mattias Ekholm and Brett Kulak on the left side - to go along with Cody Ceci, Evan Bouchard, Vincent Desharnais and Philip Broberg on the right side they are all set.

They might want to upgrade their third or second pairing before the playoffs, but there is a lot to like about this blueline.

It hasn't always been this way. In fact, in recent years the depth on the blueline has been too young and too inexperienced. Ethan Bear and Caleb Jones were both Oilers who were traded away to acquire better (or different) talent.

Today we saw a another former young Oilers blueliner placed on the waiver wire.

Jordan Oesterle was put on waivers today by the Calgary Flames. He was last spotted in an Oilers uniform in the 2016-17 season. Since then he's played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes and the Detroit Red Wings.

In July of 2023 he signed a one-year deal with the Flames. After only skating in four games he will continue his season in the AHL - should he not get claimed.
