Oilers made an emergency recall Saturday afternoon.

Edmonton Oilers should call up Ben Gleason to be the team's seventh defenseman over Philip Broberg.

The Edmonton Oilers have a back-to-back to close out the 2023 calendar year. Tonight they play against the Los Angeles Kings while tomorrow they play the Anaheim Ducks. The Kings are ahead of the Oilers in the standings. With 44 points in 32 games they sit in third place in the Pacific Division. The Oilers are 11 points behind, but are gaining ground on their playoff nemesis.

This back-to-back is pivotal for the Oilers, as they can gain ground on the teams ahead of them in the standings while putting teams below them further in the rear view mirror.

Earlier today they made a pair of corresponding moves.

The Oilers have recalled forward Raphael Lavoie and sent down Ben Gleason. Lavoie is the goal scoring leader for the Bakersfield Condors - the AHL affiliate of the Oilers - with 10 goals in 19 games.

Raphael Lavoie.Raphael Lavoie.

He was with the Oilers earlier in the season, playing six games with the team in the first half of November. He only averaged 7:36 of ice time to go along with three shots, 10 hits and a single block.

He was able to join the team for morning skate ahead of tonight's game. Let's hope he can find a role suitable for him on the team. The time is now for him to put his stamp on the team.

If the team is recalling him there could be multiple injuries for tonight's contest against the Kings. Hopefully it's nothing serious for whoever has an ailment.

The game tonight begins at 8 PM Mountain time.
