The Edmonton Oilers can achieve a first this season if they play their cards right.
The Edmonton Oilers will look to improve on their 19-15-1 record against the Ottawa Senators tonight. The Senators come into tonight's contest 14-20-0. Their 28 points have them sitting dead last in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Oilers are presently two points behind of the last Wild Card Position in the Western Conference - currently occupied by the Seattle Kraken. The Kraken last played on Thursday night against the Senators. Their next game isn't until Tuesday January 9.
The Kraken have 41 points and a .526 points percentage. They have a record of 16-14-9. That's eight more overtime losses than the Oilers, but the Oilers have three more wins, hence the two points difference in the standings.
There is a tremendous opportunity in front of the Oilers tonight. With a win tonight the Oilers would officially move into a playoff position for the first time this season.

They would technically be tied with the Kraken in points, but the Oilers .557 points percentage is greater than the Kraken's. It would also be their 20th win - another tiebreaker in favor of the Copper and Blue.
They are on a six game winning streak, having defeated the New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and more recently the Philadelphia Flyers. Their winning streak dates back to December 21st.
Tonight the Oilers can achieve a first this season, a playoff berth. Certainly many players know this and are eager to secure that position going into tonight's game.
The game tonight will be on Hockey Night in Canada. The broadcast will begin at 8 PM Mountain Time.
