'I'm Definitely Not a General Manager': Warren Foegele Gives Cheeky Answer to Trade Deadline Question

With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, it was only appropriate to ask Warren Foegele about his thoughts.

Edmonton Oilers have the second fewest goals scored against them all season.

EDMONTON -- On the second night of a back-to-back the Edmonton Oilers dominate the Pittsburgh Penguins by a 6-1 final score.

The Oilers got contributions from up and down the lineup. Zach Hyman, Corey Perry, Ryan McLeod, Cody Ceci, and Connor McDavid all found the back of the net.

Additionally many players found themselves pocketing several assists. Leon Draisaitl, Brett Kulak and Warren Foegele all had at least two helpers in the winning effort.

Foegele was impressed with the whole team last night. Starting with making good passes and when to make certain plays. He told The Hockey News, "I thought our execution was really noticeable tonight. Making clean passes, making the right decisions at the right time. Everyone was contributing and hopefully we build off of it."

This being the back half of a back-to-back scenario didn't seem to slow the Oilers down. Foegele believes the compacted schedule helped the team find their game, "just getting into rhythm."

The Oilers are starting to put some space between themselves and the Vegas Golden Knights. They are three points up on them, but still trail the Vancouver Canucks by nine points.

They aren't settling for just moving past Vegas, they have other goals in sight. "The next few months is every other day kind of hockey. We're looking at the standings and we want to finish first in our division as well as for the west [conference]. Efforts like that will help get us there."

It's Monday morning, and the trade deadline is on Friday. Ken Holland is poised to be adding a few forwards and at least one defenseman.

With Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard playing as well as they are, Holland spoke to Daniel Nugent-Bowman about not being involved in the goalie market for trades.

Someone asked Foegele, "you're not a general manager, but it kind of looks like this team could stand pat on it's goaltending. What do you think?"

Foegele had an unforgettable response - "I'm definitely not a general manager."

He went on to answer the question in a more serious fashion, "Both our goalies have been unbelievable this year. Some really solid efforts by both of them. Hopefully we can keep that up and everyone [can] help them as well."

The humor was clear in the question and response. However a more serious question followed up - would Foegele ever consider becoming a general manager at some point in his hockey career?

"I think I'm such a hockey nerd [and] I enjoy the game so much. It's such a passion - so maybe in the future that could be a calling card. I like playing the game right now, so I'm just going to stay here."
