The Bakersfield Condors won a tightly contested 2-0 game last night over the Henderson Silver Knights. Two Edmonton Oilers made huge impacts on the game to earn the Condors the win.
Jack Campbell.Raphael Lavoie scored the game winning goal. While on a power play in the second period he rifled a one-timer slap shot past the Silver Knights goaltender.
Jack Campbell stopped all 30 shots he faced to earn his first shutout of the season - AHL or NHL. He was the first star of the game.
From the first puck drop to the final buzzer, Campbell was dialed in. You can see on this embedded post above how in the zone he was. On that play he didn't panic, he kept square to the shooter and reacted quickly.
When Campbell is on, he's one of the best goalies in the NHL. His issue has always been consistency. Can he put a run of 10+ games with a save percentage north of .920?
Jack Campbell and Stuart Skinner. He'll need to reach that level in the lower league so that he can be .900 minimum in the NHL. He played stellar in the pre season so we know he's capable of performing that well only a month and a half ago.
In the meantime, the Oilers can't wait for Campbell to find his game - but they can't rush and acquire a potential Jack Campbell 2.0. So the status quo of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard will have to do for now.
