Edmonton Oilers fans are in the dog-days of summer. With the Hlinka-Gretzky tournament wrapped up, fans now have captain skates as the next thing to look forward to.

Some speculation has surfaced regarding two hot button topics, Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane.

Draisaitl is in talks with the Oilers about a contract extension. Many insiders have speculated on the nature of his next deal. The talk has ranged from a four-year deal to a max eight-year extension.

Right now, 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast (who reported Stan Bowman being hired by the Oilers the day before they actually did) has reported that an eight-year $13.3-$13.5-million extension is the likely outcome.

Anything less than $14-million a season would be a steal for the Oilers. Draisaitl has done nothing but improve his game year after year. He is the only player on the team that can come close to Connor McDavid's point production. He's well worth $13.5-million.

They are also reporting that Kane will be ready for captain skates. This points to him not going on LTIR to begin the season. That would indicate that the Oilers have a few moves to make before the beginning of the season to become cap compliant.

Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg are two restricted free agents that need a new deal before training camp. In the same Tweet about Draisaitl and Kane, 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast is saying that those two players could be signing two-year deals worth $1.3 and $1.1-million respectively.

*Update: On Monday morning Bob Stauffer offered his insight into Kane's situation. Taking to Twitter he said, "hearing there is a very good chance that the Oilers Evander Kane won't be ready for the start of the season...that he may require surgery... and is likely to be on LTIR to start the year."

Time will tell if these rumbles come to pass. Until then, Oilers fans can entertain as much speculation as they want.
