EDMONTON -- If you are going to go down, go down swinging.

With the way the Edmonton Oilers were swinging last night, there was no way that team was losing the game.

Leon Draisaitl, Corey Perry, Viktor Arvidsson, and Zach Hyman combined for five goals to power the Oilers to a 5-1 victory over the Nashville Predators in their first Connor McDavid-less contest.

Not only did a few players break goal-less streaks, but a couple of others contributed in big ways.

Ty Emberson has been a pleasant addition to the Oilers roster. The defenseman has a surprisingly feisty side to his game.

With 14 hits, the 24-year-old defender ranks third on the Oilers in that statistic. Unfortunately for Emberson, he had to answer the bell for a hit he landed on a young Predators player.

There is an unspoken code with things like this in hockey, if you take exception to a star player or young up-and-coming player, you need to answer for your actions. That's what Emberson had to do with this scrap against Cole Smith.

Vasily Podkolzin is a tough customer. His 30 hits lead the Oilers in that category. He also knows how to hold his own in a fight, as demonstrated by taking down heavyweight Jeremy Lauzon.

Podkolzin showed a moment of gamesmanship at the end of the fight. While Lauzon was falling to the ice, you can see Podkolzin grab on his sweater to prevent his head from hitting the ice first.

When a team is missing its best player, everyone else has to contribute. That's exactly what Emberson and Podkolzin did tonight for the Copper and Blue.

    Swing away.
