Edmonton Oilers fans are not happy with the way their team has started the 2023-24 season.

The Edmonton Oilers will be harder on themselves than the media and fans are on them.

They didn't think it would start this way.

Going into the 2023-24 regular season the Edmonton Oilers were heavy favorites to both make the post season and win the Stanley Cup. Now, if things don't turn around in due course, that could all be in jeopardy.

Things came to a head in the last game against the New York Rangers. Not only did the fans at Rogers place boo at the end of the second period - but for the last three minutes of the third period there was a constant stream of boos.

Fans aren't happy with the 1-5-1 start, and frankly neither are the players. Darnell Nurse had this to say after the last game:

"It's easy to point fingers...everyone just (needs to) look in the mirror at this point and do a whole lot f****** better"

No one in the Oilers dressing room is pointing fingers at one other guy for not doing their job. Collectively, the entire team needs to step up.

Seven games into the season and the Oilers are facing the worst kind of adversity - themselves. American Thanksgiving is just under a month away, which is an unofficial early playoff deadline.

From 2005-06 season to the 2022-23 season 76.3% of teams that are in a playoff position at American Thanksgiving make the playoffs at the end of the year.

American Thanksgiving is on November 23rd. The Oilers have 11 games between now and then. It's time for the rubber to meet the road.
