"What do you want me to say to him?" Was one Edmonton Oilers response to a mistake that led to the game tying goal in their 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
With the overtime loss tonight the Edmonton Oilers now drop to 1-3-1 on the (very early) season. Tonight was a game of several individual errors that cost the team goals against.
First out to meet with the media after the loss was Leon Draisaitl. Never afraid to speak his mind, he was asked what he said to Stuart Skinner after the Winnipeg Jets scored their game tying goal.
"What do you want me to say to him?" Draisaitl told media, visibly frustrated with the question. He continued, "he made a mistake, big deal...we all make mistakes."
The feeling in the room right now strikes me as the team not wanting to allow themselves to get too low because of the loss. For a team that has Stanley Cup aspirations, they must find it tough to deal with questions that seem to dwell on negativity - rather than moving forward.
One media member brought up (several times) that the Oilers are behind the Vegas Golden Knights by nine points - who are currently in first place in the Pacific Division.
For the Oilers right now, it's all about the next game. Like Darnell Nurse said in his post game comments, it's about having that "killer instinct."
