With the Edmonton Oilers opening their season tonight, the NHL's biggest star can start a ripple of change.
The time of going backwards, is over. The time of bending to the wishes of those with power and privilege is over.
It's time for the new NHL.
The majority of players, coaches and management in the NHL want the league to be a safe and inclusive place for those who have felt like outsiders their whole life.
With the league first banning Pride Jerseys over the summer to instituting a league wide ban of Pride Tape - any progress has been stripped away because a handful of individuals felt uncomfortable.
The Edmonton Oilers have two players who have expressed their disappointment with the league - Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman.
Now it's time to do something. To put their money with their mouth is. It's time for them to step out onto the ice with Pride Tape on their sticks.
The CBA states that players can have any color of tape on their sticks. Instead of black or white, let's see them wear rainbow.
